Disable X/Y-Axis lock for touchpad scrolling

I want to be able to easily diagonally scroll in my software, but there's a lock on the touchpad scroll where I have to exaggerate movement in the other axis to break the lock and allow input from both the X and the Y axis. From what I'm reading this seems to be a restriction that Windows imposes. Any fixes I find (mostly recommended by AI) wants me to make a custom layer between the touchpad driver and the OS to trick Windows. This seems massively excessive.

I'm on a ASUS TUF GAMING A15. The touchpad is a precision touchpad.

Thanks in advance for any help

The ability to disable the X/Y-axis lock for touchpad scrolling is not directly configurable through standard Windows settings. Windows imposes certain limitations on touchpad gestures, and while there are some registry settings that can be adjusted for touchpad behavior, they do not specifically address the X/Y-axis lock issue you are experiencing.

For precision touchpads, the settings available in the registry primarily focus on enabling or disabling gestures and adjusting their behavior, but there is no specific setting documented that allows for the removal of the X/Y-axis lock during scrolling.

If you are looking for a workaround, you might consider checking for any driver updates from ASUS for your touchpad, as manufacturers sometimes provide enhancements or fixes that could improve touchpad functionality. Additionally, third-party software solutions exist that may allow for more customizable touchpad settings, but these can vary in effectiveness and compatibility.

Unfortunately, without a direct setting in Windows or the touchpad driver, achieving the desired behavior may require more complex solutions than simply adjusting settings.

Hi Kristian Asbøll, I can see how annoying that must be you just want smooth diagonal scrolling and instead you’re stuck fighting a system level restriction that feels unnecessary.

Windows doesn’t let you turn off the X/Y scroll lock so the best way to get smoother diagonal scrolling is to update your ASUS touchpad driver and if that’s not enough use a tool like AutoHotkey or Touchpad Blocker to customize gestures.

Have you already checked if your ASUS touchpad driver is the latest version or are you still using the factory installed driver?

    Best regards

    Lucky
