Security Key Problems

This all started when my fingerprint sensor stopped working. Followed up with Copilot which decided that, because of recent Microsoft security changes, that virtually no fingerprint reader would work. Damn, I said to myself, I hate typing passcodes, I'll just get a physical security key and I'll never have to type it again. Bought SafeNet eToken FIDO security key. Attempted installation. Software installed but install of the hardware wouldn't proceed. Consulted Copilot. Took me on a trip through various Microsoft websites looking for an "Advanced Settings" setting. After 90 minutes of trying to find it, Copilot came to the conclusion that my Microsoft Account was not "top tier," what ever that means, and suggested I obtain an new account.

I've had this account for over 10 years and REALLY don't want to get a new account and transfer all my apps/logins to a new account. If, indeed, account elevation needs to occur, is there no other way to do so? Installation of this device was supposed to be easy. Nowdays, everything Microsoft seems monumental.

Still need help. Most of my logins are screwed up as well. Any apps, utilities, or scripts that will fix them?

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating situation with your fingerprint sensor and the installation of your SafeNet eToken FIDO security key. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issues you're facing:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that your SafeNet eToken FIDO security key is compatible with Windows 11 and the specific applications you are trying to use it with.
    2. Driver Installation: Sometimes, the hardware installation issues can be resolved by manually installing the latest drivers for your security key. Check the manufacturer's website for any available drivers or installation guides.
    3. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows 11 is fully updated, as updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with hardware.
    4. Feedback Hub: If you're still having trouble, consider using the Feedback Hub app to report the issue. This can help Microsoft identify and potentially resolve the problem in future updates.
    5. Account Issues: Regarding the account elevation, if your account is not recognized as "top tier," it may be related to certain features or permissions. You can try contacting Microsoft support directly for assistance with your account without needing to create a new one.

If the installation process continues to be problematic, you might want to reach out to the support team for your security key for more specific guidance.
