Hello Judy Musgrove, thanks for posting this in the community.

Ensure you are entering the correct recovery key for the specific drive. The key ID shown on the recovery screen must match the key ID of the recovery key you have. If you have multiple keys saved, confirm the correct one.

Check the keyboard input because sometimes the keyboard layout on the recovery screen is different, for example, US layout instead of your local layout. Try typing the key in the password field first to confirm characters are correct. If you are using a wireless keyboard, switch to a wired keyboard or the laptop keyboard.

Confirm the input method. The recovery screen expects numbers only without dashes or spaces. Enter the 48-digit key without hyphens. Example: 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678.

If the system is still unresponsive after typing the key, press Enter twice or try F10 as some systems use this to confirm input. If the screen freezes, it could indicate a hardware or operating system corruption issue.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

If you are entering your BitLocker recovery key and nothing happens, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:

    1. Ensure Correct Entry: Make sure you are entering the recovery key correctly. The recovery key is a 48-digit number and must be entered without spaces or any additional characters.
    2. Check Keyboard Layout: Sometimes, the keyboard layout may change, especially if you have multiple languages set up. Ensure that you are using the correct keyboard layout when typing the recovery key.
    3. Try Different USB Ports: If you are using a USB device to enter the recovery key, try using a different USB port or a different USB device altogether.
    4. Access Recovery Options: If the recovery key still does not work, you may need to access recovery options through another method. You can try using the recovery tools available on your installation media or contact your PC administrator for assistance.
    5. Use Command Prompt: If you have access to a command prompt, you can try unlocking the drive using the command line with the following command:
         manage-bde -unlock <DriveLetter>: -RecoveryPassword <YourRecoveryKey>

Replace <DriveLetter> with the letter of the drive you are trying to unlock and <YourRecoveryKey> with your actual recovery key.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to seek further assistance from Microsoft support or your device manufacturer.
