Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows Pro licence direct from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer?

Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

Download the free ShowKeyPlus app from the Microsoft Store.

On the that app, click 'Check Edition', then enter your product key into that app.

Please provide a screenshot of that app window and please hide your product key in the screenshot.

If you're unable to activate Windows after upgrading your CPU and motherboard, it could be due to the product key not matching the Windows edition or the hardware changes affecting the activation status. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Product Key: Ensure that the product key you are using is valid for the edition of Windows you have installed. If you upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the product key must correspond to the Windows 11 edition you are trying to activate.
    2. Use the Correct Activation Method: You can try to activate Windows using the command line. For example, you can use the slmgr.vbs command to input your product key:
         cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <your_product_key>

Replace <your_product_key> with your actual product key.
    3. Manual Activation: If you're not using an unattended installation, you can manually enter the product key:
      • Right-click on the Start menu and select Run.
      • Type ms-settings:activation and hit OK.
      • Select Change product key and enter your product key.
    4. Check for OEM Activation: If your computer originally came with Windows pre-installed, it might have an OEM product key stored in the firmware. Ensure that the product key you are using matches the Windows edition that came with your device.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance with activation issues related to hardware changes.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the activation issue with Windows after your hardware upgrade.
