pc crashes randomly when idle

Hello all,

I bought this PC about 1–2 months ago and everything was fine at first, but for the past few weeks it has been restarting randomly. This happens when I’m not doing anything demanding, sometimes even while just browsing. I did a clean Windows install yesterday and it worked fine for a day, but the issue returned today. I’m not sure what’s causing it and would really appreciate any help.

I also noticed a Kernel-Power Event ID 41 error in Event Viewer.

Specs:

• CPU: AMD 9600X

• Motherboard: B850F Strix

• RAM: 4×8GB (XMP enabled)

• PSU: RMx 1000x

• GPU: RTX 5080

• Storage: 2 NVMe drives + 1 SATA 1TB

Please check to see if your PC is producing any minidump files, I will check those to see if they provide any insight into a potential cause of the system crashes.

Please do not upload a very large Memory.dmp file.

    Open Windows File Explorer.

    Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy any minidump files onto your Desktop, then zip those up.

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive... etc.), then choose to share those and get a share link.

Then post the link here to the zip file, so I can take a look for you.

It sounds like you're experiencing random restarts on your PC, which can be frustrating. The Kernel-Power Event ID 41 error indicates that your system has rebooted without a clean shutdown, which often points to hardware issues or power supply problems.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Power Supply: Ensure that your power supply (PSU) is adequate for your system's needs. The RMx 1000x should generally be sufficient, but verify that it is functioning properly and not underpowered.
    2. Inspect RAM Configuration: Since you have XMP enabled, ensure that all RAM modules are compatible and functioning correctly. You can run a memory test to check for any issues with the RAM.
    3. Monitor Temperatures: Overheating can cause random restarts. Check the CPU and GPU temperatures to ensure they are within safe operating limits.
    4. Disable Overclocking: If you have any overclocking settings enabled, consider disabling them to see if stability improves.
    5. Check for Hardware Issues: Inspect all hardware connections and components for any signs of failure or improper installation. This includes checking the motherboard, GPU, and storage devices.
    6. Event Viewer Analysis: Besides Event ID 41, look for other related events in the Event Viewer that might provide more context about the crashes. For example, Event ID 6008 indicates an unexpected shutdown, which could help pinpoint the issue.

If the problem persists after these checks, it may be worth considering contacting support or a professional technician for further diagnosis.
