2026-01-06T14:49:11.03+00:00 There are required services being disabled.
If these services aren’t running, Windows silently reverts sharing settings.
Do this exactly:
Press Win + R → services.msc
Set ALL of the following to Startup type: Automatic, then Start them:
Function Discovery Provider HostFunction Discovery Resource PublicationSSDP DiscoveryUPnP Device HostServerWorkstationReboot and try enabling sharing again. If even ONE of these is stopped, toggles will not stick.

2026-01-05T22:59:48.3833333+00:00 Thanks for sharing the details! In newer Windows 11 builds, Advanced sharing settings auto-save.
What to do
Open Control Panel
Go to Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center
Click Change advanced sharing settings
Change:
- Network discovery
- File and printer sharing
Just close the window
There is no Save button anymore, closing the page commits the changes.
How to confirm
- Reopen the page
- If your toggles stayed changed, they were saved successfully
See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.
Best regards,
Kimberly

2026-01-05T21:02:15.6833333+00:00 If you are unable to see the "Save changes" button while trying to change file sharing settings in the Advanced Sharing settings on Windows 11, it may be due to a couple of reasons:
- User Account Control (UAC): Ensure that you are running the Control Panel with administrative privileges. Right-click on the Control Panel and select "Run as administrator" to see if this resolves the issue.
- Network Profile: Make sure that your network profile is set correctly. If you are on a public network, some sharing options may be restricted. You can change your network profile to either "Private" or "Work" to enable more sharing options.
- Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 is up to date. Sometimes, missing updates can cause issues with system settings.
- Corrupted User Profile: If the problem persists, it might be worth checking if your user profile is corrupted. You can create a new user account and see if the issue occurs there as well.
If none of these solutions work, consider checking online forums or Microsoft's support for further assistance specific to Windows 11.
