Hello Robert,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to your new computer and Microsoft 365 experience. I understand you just renewed your old Office and you are wondering if that payment carries over to Microsoft 365 or if you should cancel it.
I know transitions like this can be confusing especially when you have already paid for something and you just want to keep working without worrying about duplicate charges. The key difference is that a one time purchase of Office such as Office 2019 or 2021 is a perpetual license tied to that specific version and device count while Microsoft 365 is a subscription service that is managed under your Microsoft account and billed monthly or yearly so payments for a perpetual Office product do not automatically convert to or transfer into a Microsoft 365 subscription. If you still want to use your old perpetual Office on the new computer you can usually transfer that license to your new device as long as it is a retail license and you remove it from the old device first.
If you no longer need the old Office or you renewed a Microsoft 365 subscription and want to stop future charges the simplest path is to sign in to Services and subscriptions at account.microsoft.com and select Manage then Cancel subscription or turn off recurring billing and you will keep access until the current term ends with refund eligibility depending on timing and where you purchased.
I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back
Regards,
Marcelo
