I am trying to retrieve emails that I had both sent, and received from 5-7 years ago. I tried going into settings but was unable to find on what to adjust. I also have a subfolder that i know emails were in, that is now empty.

Outlook accounts don’t automatically delete emails unless you delete them manually, or something is moving them, such as inbox rules, a third-party email app/client (mobile mail apps, desktop clients, IMAP clients), or an added connected account that applies rules/sync actions. If this started recently, sign in to Outlook.com on a PC (desktop view), open the Deleted Items folder, and look for Recover items deleted from this folder at the top of the message list. This tool can restore messages that were removed from Deleted Items (if they’re still within the retention period). Also check Junk Email and Archive, and review Settings > Mail > Rules to make sure nothing is automatically moving or deleting your mail.
