Actually, I found that the key was listed in my alternate Microsoft account that I setup quite some time ago.
Bitlocker Key
I'm helping a friend whose laptop quit due to a broken power jack. I removed the M.2 2230 and connected it with USB adapter on my computer. Of course, it prompted me to enter the BitLocker key. When I logged into his Microsoft account, there is no device listed to recover that information. Since his laptop is not functioning, is there any recourse at this point?

Are you able to find the Bitlocker Recovery Key on any account that may have been used or linked to the laptop?
If not, sadly there is no working method to bypass the encryption and access the data on that drive, the only way to re-use that drive is to format it, even booting from that drive, a Windows reset will not work on a Bitlocker encrypted drive.

2026-01-08T16:52:51.1466667+00:00 If your friend's laptop is not functioning and you cannot find the BitLocker recovery key in his Microsoft account, there are a few options to consider:
- Check Other Accounts: Ensure that the recovery key was not saved in another Microsoft account or in Active Directory if the laptop was part of a domain.
- Recovery Key Storage: The recovery key might have been saved to a USB drive, printed out, or stored in a text file. Check any physical documents or USB drives that might have been used for this purpose.
- Contact Support: If the laptop was managed by an organization, contacting the IT department may help in retrieving the recovery key.
- Recovery Options: If the recovery key is completely lost, unfortunately, the data on the BitLocker-encrypted drive may be unrecoverable without it. BitLocker is designed to secure data, and without the recovery key, access to the encrypted data is typically not possible.
It's important to keep recovery keys in a safe and accessible location to avoid such situations in the future.
