Error using data quality connections in Microsoft Purview despite existing connection

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue in Microsoft Purview related to data quality connections, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving it.

I have already created and published a connection in Purview (Fabric type), which appears correctly under the Connections section and shows a Published status. However, when I try to use this connection from the Data Resources view (for example, for a Power BI report or a BigQuery dataset), I receive the following error message:

“No se puede usar ninguna conexión. Cree primero una conexión para este recurso.”

English translation of the error:

“No connection can be used. Please create a connection for this resource first.”

This error is shown even though the connection already exists and is published.

Additional context:

·The connection is visible and active under Connections.

·The data resources are correctly detected and listed.

·Despite this, Purview does not allow associating or using the existing connection for data quality purposes.

·All screenshots attached to this ticket are in Spanish, but I have provided the translated error message above for clarity.

Could you please help me understand:

·Why Purview does not recognize or allow the use of the existing connection?

·Whether there are additional configuration steps, permissions, or prerequisites required to associate connections with these data resources?

·If this is a known issue or limitation related to Fabric / Power BI / external sources.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,

Noelia

Hi Noelia Sotelo Taboada,
Thanks for sharing the screenshot, Noelia it helps clarify the behavior.

The message “No se puede usar ninguna conexión. Cree primero una conexión para este recurso” appears even though your connection is already Published. This is expected with the current version of Microsoft Purview Data Quality.

Purview can catalog and display Fabric, Power BI, and external sources like BigQuery, but these source types are not yet supported for running Data Quality rules. Because of that, the Data Quality panel cannot attach or reuse the existing connection, even if it appears under Connections > Published.

So the error is not caused by permissions or configuration. It is a product limitation:

  • Fabric / Power BI / BigQuery assets can be scanned and shown in the Data Map.
  • But they cannot be associated with Data Quality connections.
  • Purview therefore shows “no connection can be used” even when one is already created.

There are currently no additional steps, settings, or permissions that will make this type of connection usable for Data Quality.
