Onedrive data missing

I opened my computer today to find it saying that it unexpectedly quit, and asking if I wanted to report the issue. I wasn't worried because all the data had been saved when I shut my computer last. My local files are fine, but my Onedrive documents are not. I am missing all data since December 2, 2025. I checked the recycling bin, searched onedrive, searched my computer. Nothing. I am not a microsoft 365 subscriber. Is it possible to sign up now and restore? Please help.

Hello Jenna Townsend, thanks for posting in the community.

Please start by signing in to OneDrive online at https://onedrive.live.com and check all available locations, including My Files, the Recycle Bin, and the Restore your OneDrive page if that option appears.

If the files have been missing since December 2, they can no longer be recovered because they are older than the 30‑day retention period, no longer present in the Recycle Bin, and not available anywhere in OneDrive online. In this situation, the only remaining possibility is that you may still have unsynced copies stored locally on your computer or within any previous backups you might have created.

Subscribing to Microsoft 365 at this point would not restore data older than the standard retention window.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
