Emails bordered by box

This has to do with Hotmail.com, the internet email.

Why is there a black line, extending along the top and bottom of the first email in my Inbox and all folders? And it's along the far left and right edges too. So it's like a border, around the entire length of the email. It's annoying. How do I get rid of it?

Screen shot attached.

There's no setting for this. When I check the box on another email further down, the border disappears on the top email, but the email with the box checked turns blue, and puts that black border around the blue. If I remove the check, then the border remains around that email.

Seems the system is thinking I "checked" (or tapped) the top email in the Inbox (and all folders) even though I didn't, and putting that stupid border around it by itself.

This just happened last week.

The question asked and the answer given do not quite match what I have happening with Outlook.

I have a Blue border showing around the first email in my Inbox, and it has never been there from the time when Outlook was first implemented up until this past week (Jan 25, 2026).

The Blue border is always there, even after selecting the first email in the Inbox, going to another email, and back to the first one again. So it is not in the "Select Always Read" category at all. The Blue border is always there, and I cannot find a way to disable it.

    Anyone have any ideas?

If you go to the gear icon on the upper right, go to Settings > General > Appearance,

What if you click on Light mode, then for color, choose blue. Then save. See if it makes any difference. This is the default settings.
