Issues with using Authenticator

Hello I cannot use the MS Authenticator app as when i log into Authenticator on my phone it asks me to enter a code displayed on my mobile device. But as i have only one phone there is no way around this? Surely MS must realised the Authenticator is on a mobile device when it asks this?

    Microsoft Authenticator is tied to the device it was first set up on.

    To help narrow down the issue:

    1. When you mentioned logging in to the Authenticator app, was this on a new phone? If so, do you remember if you had backup turned on in the Microsoft Authenticator app before this happened? And do you still have access to old phone?
    2. Also, may I ask if you're using the Microsoft Authenticator app on an Android or iOS device?
