Hi @Jacob goodwin,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Thank you for reaching out. I understand you are experiencing an issue where you cannot switch out of S Mode because your Windows 11 Home is showing as unactivated, creating a loop that prevents you from installing third-party software.
To help me provide the correct guidance and resolve this activation block, please provide answers to the following five questions:
- Was Windows 11 already set up on this device when you first bought it?
- When you try to exit S Mode, do you see a specific error code or a "Try again later" alert?
- Are you working on a laptop or a desktop workstation?
- Have you attempted to use the Microsoft Store to buy a Pro upgrade to resolve this?
- Is there a specific Microsoft account currently logged into the Store app?
While gathering those details, please try these three "S Mode-safe" steps, as they often resolve the connection issues between the Store and the activation servers:
- Reset the Microsoft Store: Press the Windows Key + R, type wsreset.exe, and hit Enter. A blank window will stay open for a few seconds; once it closes and the Store reopens automatically, try to switch out of S Mode again.
- Sync Your System Clock: Go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Ensure Set time automatically is toggled ON and click the Sync now button. If your system time is even slightly off, it will block the activation handshake.
- Check for Store Updates: Open the Microsoft Store, click Library (bottom left), and select Get updates. Specifically, ensure the "Microsoft Store" and "App Installer" are fully updated, then restart your computer.
Once I have these details, I will be able to provide the specific steps needed to break the cycle between S Mode and the activation requirement.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
