Microsoft Authenticator not a generating code

Apologies but this is going to be a long post - covering as much detail as possible

I am having a lot of issues with Microsoft Authenticator App. I am in the middle of a mentoring program and one of the platforms we are using is SharePoint.

I initially was able to access the SharePoint with a previous device using an “incognito” browser. From what I vaguely remember, the organisers of the mentoring scheme sent me a link to the SharePoint that they are using for the program.

I updated my iPad in approximately July 2025 (not long after the program started) and since updating my iPad I have had issues not just accessing documents for the program, but with authenticator in general,

Then recently I also bought a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition, again I can’t access certain things in my mentoring program (this time through Microsoft Teams) because Authenticator isn’t receiving a code.

-          I had previously set up Microsoft Authenticator for my personal email account on a previous device.

-          I have all notifications enabled for Authenticator in settings, including permissions

  • Authenticator app is up to date

  • My internet connection is secure

When I try logging in, I receive the message Enter code – Enter the code displayed in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. (Obviously I am not receiving a code)

When I go into ‘Sign in another way’, I only have two options

1.      Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app

2.      Use a verification code

(Neither of these are an option due to the issue I am having.)

I read somewhere that there should be the option to verify identity using SMS or email, neither of these are coming up as an option. I have logged into my Microsoft account, and I have both SMS and email as options on my account.

I have tried phoning the 1800 number for Australia to get a physical person to assist me

-          I was asked to voice command my issue

-          I then received a reply from an automated voice that said ‘if you are having issues with logging in, please go to ………’

-          I now cannot phone back at all and try a different voice command prompt, as soon as I dial the 1800 number, I automatically get a voice that said ‘if you are having issues with logging in, please go to ………’

I am wondering if I should try and delete my personal account / email for Authenticator and set it up again? Although it shouldn’t matter, would it be better to use Authenticator on my iPhone only instead of having it on both my iPhone and iPad? My last resort is to use another Authenticator App, but I would like to try and get Microsoft Authenticator working.

It seems as if a lot of people are having issues with Authenticator not generating a code......
