    Unfortunately, you haven't told us what "the provided steps" were, so we can't help with that.

    If you need to activate Windows after a hardware change, that likely means that the hardware you changed was the computer's motherboard. In that case, you have to purchase a Retail copy of Windows (which you appear to have done) and perform a clean install. During the install, you will be asked to enter your license, which will activate the computer after the install has completed.

    You probably know that a 'clean install' means that you erase your hard drive and reinstall all your software. If you haven't done this before we'll be glad to help.

    (I would guess that you are referring here to Windows 11, since that is currently the only version of Windows for which you can still purchase a legitimate Retail license.)

    Did you purchase from Microsoft, or from third party?

    Is it originally a Win7/8 key?

    What type of hardware change? Did you end up reinstalling Windows?
