If you encounter the error message "Another account from your organization is already signed in on this computer" while trying to activate Microsoft 365 apps, it typically indicates that another Microsoft 365 account from the same organization is already signed in. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    For Windows Devices:

    1. Sign out of all Microsoft 365 apps and then sign in again.
    2. If the issue persists, modify the OneAuth account store:
      • Navigate to %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneAuth\accounts.
      • Open the files using Notepad and check the account_hints value to identify files not associated with the account you want to use.
      • Change the association_status of com.microsoft.Office to disassociated in those files and save them.
    3. If the issue continues, sign out of all Microsoft 365 apps, remove all folders in %localappdata%/Microsoft/OneAuth and %localappdata%/Microsoft/IdentityCache, and then sign in again.

    For Mac Devices:

    1. Close all Microsoft 365 apps.
    2. Open Terminal and run the command:
defaults write com.microsoft.Word ResetOneAuthCreds -bool YES

    3. Open Microsoft Word and continue with the activation steps.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider checking for any antivirus, proxy, or firewall settings that might be blocking the Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin process, or use the Microsoft 365 sign-in troubleshooter for further assistance.

    Dear @yennee29,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

This message usually appears when your browser or device still holds a cached session from another work/school account in the same organization. Azure AD sign‑in cannot maintain two organizational accounts from the same tenant within one active session, so it blocks the login and displays this error.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Sign out completely from all Microsoft sessions

Go to: https://myaccount.microsoft.com, go to Security info > Select Sign out everywhere

    User's image

Close all browser windows then open the browser again and sign in with the account you intend to use

This clears old authentication tokens that may be interfering with your login.

    1. Use an InPrivate / Incognito browser window

This is a quick way to rule out cached credentials.

    • Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N

    Then try signing in again.

    1. Clear browser cache and cookies

Go to your browser settings and Clear cookies and cached data then Restart the browser

If an old organization account was previously used on this device, its cookies may still be stored.

    1. Remove old accounts from Office apps (if Office Desktop is involved)

Open Word or Excel > File > Account

Under “Connected Services” or “Signed‑in User,” remove any accounts you don’t want to use

Restart the app and sign in again

    1. Clear Windows Credential Manager (Windows desktop only)

Sometimes old credentials are stored at system level.

Open Control Panel > Select Credential Manager > Open Windows Credentials > Remove entries related to Microsoft Office, MicrosoftIdentity, AadAuth, etc.

    Try signing in again

    1. If you are using Office Online Server (on‑premises)

OOS environments can be more sensitive to old sessions.

    Try:

    • Clearing all browser cookies
    • Signing out from your ADFS page
    • Restarting the browser before signing in again

To help you further, could you let me know:

    1. Are you using Windows or macOS?
    2. Are you signed in with multiple work accounts on the same device?
    3. Does the error appear only in the browser, in Office desktop apps, or in Teams?
    4. Is this happening only to you, or to other users in your organization as well?

Your answers will help narrow down the exact cause so I can guide you more precisely.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I hope this information helps point you in the right direction. If you run into any issues while trying the steps, or if something still doesn’t feel quite right, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. I’ll do my best to support you however I can.

Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.

    Warm regards,
