How can the Windows Update (Win11) pause be turned off? No pause, immediate download/install.
I have attempted to registry hack. The key is ignored.
Simply grays out the option, which is still set a "Pause for 1 week" which is the lowest pause option in drop down selection. After a subsequent reboot, the " Pause updates" option is no longer grayed out. Next suggestion???

If you are seeing a button with 'Pause for 1 week' (as shown below), then your updates are not paused, if your updates sere paused, that button would change to 'Extend for 1 week'.
Please provide a screenshot of your full Windows udpates settings window.

Click your Start Button, then just type winver and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting dialog box.
In English, "Pause 1 week" means something is to be paused for 1 week. Is this different in Microsoft-peak??? I'm sorry, but 25 years in IT support, fighting with MS since the release of MS-DOS 3.0, I find the devs' competency it be degrading exponentially since Y2K!
I agree with you, the text on that button should probably be worded differently, it can be confusing.
