Hi Jeffrey Crise,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and for explaining the situation clearly.
When Copilot states that it has created a file, this does not always mean that a physical file has been generated and saved. In some cases, Copilot only produces the file’s content conceptually or displays it inline in the conversation. If no download link or saved location is provided, the file does not exist as a retrievable object.
To resolve this, you can try the following:
- Ask Copilot to regenerate the file and explicitly save it (for example: “Create the Excel file and save it to my OneDrive”).
- Manually create the file: Open Excel, then copy or recreate the content Copilot generated into a new workbook and save it normally.
- Check OneDrive directly (via onedrive.live.com) to confirm whether the file was actually created there.
To clarify, there is no Trust Center option, Office setting, or browser security toggle that enables or blocks this behavior. It is related to how Copilot currently handles file creation rather than a restriction on your account or device.
If you’d like, you can also submit feedback directly from Copilot. This helps the product team improve how file creation and saving is handled in future updates.
I hope this helps explain what’s happening and give you some useful directions toward fixing this.
