Hi,

When i open a file on my laptop which is saved on OneDrive, i do not see Python in Formula menu of the Ribbon. However, when i open a new Excel file, i see Python in Formula menu of the Ribbon.

In MS Excel, i am signed in with the Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise login credentials.

How can i see the Python group in the Formula menu of the Ribbon?

Thank you.

Dear @Ashish Mathur, Thank you for updating.
Based on the information you've provided, it appears that the Python group may not be showing in the Formula tab due to how Excel is interpreting the specific file you’re opening from OneDrive. Even though the file is in .xlsx format and not in Protected View, there are a few additional factors that could affect the visibility of the Python feature:

1/    Excel may not fully trust the file depending on its origin or internal metadata.

2/ Connected experiences (required for Python in Excel) might be disabled in Excel’s privacy settings.

    I recommend steps below:

    • Open the file and use “Save As” to save it again as a standard Excel Workbook (.xlsx) under a new name.
    • Ensure that “Enable optional connected experiences” is turned on in Excel via File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options.
    • Try copying the contents of the file into a new blank workbook (where the Python group is visible) and save it to OneDrive.
    • Restart Excel and reopen the newly saved file to check if the Python group appears.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If I misunderstood what you’re looking for, feel free to let me know or share a screenshot. I’d be happy to help further!

I'm looking forward for your reply. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Dear @Ashish Mathur,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you're experiencing an issue where the Python group is missing from the Formula tab in Excel when opening a file from OneDrive, even though it appears correctly in new workbooks.

Have you had a chance to check the suggestion provided by our Q&A Assistant above? If the issue persists, please let us know which suggestions you tried and what happened. Besides, could you please confirm the following:

    • Is the file you're opening saved in the older .xls format or showing “Compatibility Mode” in the title bar?
    • Are you seeing any prompts like “Enable Editing” or “Protected View” when opening the file?
    • Have you tried converting the file to the modern .xlsx format?

Your detailed response will help us diagnose and investigate the issue more efficiently.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If I misunderstood what you’re looking for, feel free to let me know or share a screenshot. I’d be happy to help further!

I'm looking forward for your reply. Thank you for your cooperation.

It seems that the visibility of the Python group in the Formula menu of the Ribbon may depend on the context of the file you are opening. When you open a file saved on OneDrive, certain features or add-ins might not be enabled or available compared to when you open a new Excel file.

Here are a few steps you can try to ensure that the Python group appears in the Ribbon:

    1. Check Add-ins: Make sure that the Python add-in is enabled in Excel. You can do this by going to File > Options > Add-ins, and then checking if the Python add-in is listed and enabled.
    2. Update Excel: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise is up to date. Sometimes, features may not work properly if the software is not updated.
    3. Sign In: Verify that you are signed in with the same Microsoft 365 account across all instances of Excel. Sometimes, features are account-specific.
    4. File Compatibility: Check if the file you are opening from OneDrive is in a compatible format that supports the Python features.

If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance, as they may have more specific insights into this behavior.
