the portal keeps refusing to accept a certain phone number keeping in mind other phone number are being accepted

I think that when one number keeps getting tossed back, it’s often an old MFA bind still stuck to that line… sometimes even hidden under a soft‑deleted user. I’d purge stale methods in mysignins.microsoft.com, then check Entra > Users > Deleted for any ghost entry using that number — clearing that has let the number thru for me more than once at 3am.
