    Hi Mohammad Tahir,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

Please download and install the audio driver from official DELL support page: Support for Latitude 5420 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US.

Disclaimer: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate and safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

In case you need to completely remove the old driver, please use third-party tool like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to do so. It's best to run DDU in Safe Mode.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

Are you trying to play audio via internal speakers, external speakers, or headphones?

If it is an external speaker or headphones, does it have a standard audio connector (Jack connector) or USB connector, or is it connected via Bluetooth?

Is there an X in the speaker icon next to the clock?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

(You've already shared your device model, which is helpful. However, the system information provides a broader view of your computer's configuration, including details like the BIOS version, which can be crucial for diagnosing the issue in a Dell device.)

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    I await your reply.

To resolve sound issues on your Latitude 5420, you can follow these troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check Audio Drivers: Open Device Manager and ensure that your audio drivers are installed and functioning correctly. If necessary, visit your device manufacturer's website to download the latest audio drivers for your model.
    2. Update or Roll Back Drivers: If you have recently updated your audio drivers and are experiencing issues, try rolling back to the previous version. Alternatively, ensure that you are using the latest version of the drivers.
    3. Run the Audio Troubleshooter: Go to the Settings app, navigate to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and run the Playing Audio troubleshooter. This tool can help identify and fix common audio problems.
    4. Check Audio Endpoints: Make sure that all audio devices are connected properly. You can verify this by opening the sound control panel (type mmsys.cpl in the command prompt) and checking both the playback and recording tabs. Ensure that all devices are visible and enabled.
    5. Test Audio Devices: Right-click on the audio devices in the sound control panel to test them and confirm they are working correctly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consult further resources or consider reinstalling the audio drivers completely.
