Authenticator App Code issues: accessing Shared One Drive Files

Good day. I have a Microsoft account and I have a client who shares files with me to access in their One Drive and Microsoft files.

I have always been able to access, however I can no longer get into the folders due to the need for an OTP from the Authenticator App (when logging in)

I had set up the codes in the Microsoft Authenticator App last year and it worked perfectly. At the start of January, however, my Authenticator App no longer had my Microsoft account linked. So I could not longer retrieve the code to log in and access the files.

I added the account again but it keeps saying the code does not match.

I therefore decided to remove the security step and the need for a code from the Authenticator app as a whole from my account .

When I am in my account security, it shows that no Authenticator app is connected and logging into my account works.

However, if I try to open the files shared with me - it prompts me to log in and share the code from my Authenticator app.

The issue is that my Authenticator App disconnected my account (without my knowledge) sometime in late December 2025

In January 2026 I saw that my Authenticator app no longer had my account linked

So I relinked my account and could receive new codes.

However, it trying to access my client shared files: Microsoft kept saying that the code was incorrect (despite linking the account again)

So I disabled the authenticator app option completely from my account and removed my account from the authenticator app

I contacted Technical Support and they too made me go through the steps on unlinking and relinking / adding the Authenticator app.

Issue remains that when I type the code to access the client shared One Drive Files, I have an 8 digit code in my app: but Microsoft only allows for a 6 digit code to be punched in. So I cannot login to access the files.
