I have paid my Microsoft 365 Personal Subscription on January 20th, 2026. However, when I open word and/or excel, I receive a message saying:

"Don't lose your benefits

There's a billing issue with your Microsoft 365 subscription. To avoid losing access, please update the payment details in your Microsoft account.

Update Payment"

I have uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft 365 but I am still receiving this message.

Best, M

Hello, I'm Quinn and here to help!

The message you’re seeing is caused by a billing or account sync issue, not the Office apps themselves—so reinstalling won’t fix it. Here’s what to try:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and confirm your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription shows Active.
    2. Make sure you’re signed into Word/Excel with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription (File > Account).
    3. In Word/Excel, click File > Account > Update License (if available), or Sign out, close the app, reopen it, and sign back in.
    4. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/billing and remove then re-add your payment method to refresh billing verification.

If the warning still appears, contact Microsoft Support via https://support.microsoft.com/contactus. They can clear any stuck payment status on your account.

It seems you are encountering a billing issue with your Microsoft 365 subscription, despite having made a payment. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Subscription Status: Go to your Microsoft account at account.live.com and verify that your subscription is indeed active.
    2. Update Payment Details: If there are any issues with your payment method, update your payment details in your Microsoft account.
    3. Sign into the Correct Account: Ensure that you are signed into the correct Microsoft account in the Word and Excel applications.
    4. Reactivate Subscription: If your subscription is not active, you may need to reactivate it from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    5. Contact Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.

These steps should help you resolve the billing issue and regain access to your Microsoft 365 applications.
