office 2010 and access to Office 365 after 1.11.2021

Hello

According to different interprietations of MS announcement (
MC229143 - DEC '20 and MC274503 - July '21) about old and unsupported Office products (for example Office 2010) accessing Office 365 I have the following question.

Will Office/Outlook 2010, if you use TLS 1.2 as transport protocol works if you connect to O365 mailbox after 1.11.2021? Or traffic and access will be adminstratively blocked by Microsoft.

Thank you for your answer

Best regards

    Hi @Kavcic Anton

This official document Office versions and connectivity to Microsoft 365 services gives introduction:

We won’t take any active measures to block other versions of the Office client that are still supported and are up to date, such as Office 2013 with Service Pack 1, from connecting to Microsoft 365 services. But these older clients may encounter performance or reliability issues over time.

So Office 2010 will not be blocked by Micosoft.
Office 365 is designed to work best with Office 2016, Office 2019... Previous versions of Office, such as Office 2010, Office 2007, and Office for Mac 2011 may work with Office 365 with reduced functionality.

    Hi @Kavcic Anton

Please note that outlook 2010 is not supported for Modern Authentication, and Support for basic authentication is ending to increase the security of Microsoft 365 by relying on modern authentication protocols. You may encounter the problem that the old version Outlook cannot log in.

As the official link New minimum Outlook for Windows version requirements for Microsoft 365 introduces:
After November 1, 2021, only Outlook 2013 Service Pack 1 (with latest fixes) and later will be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services. It’s worth noting here that Outlook 2007, 2010, and Office 2013 versions earlier than 15.0.4971.1000 aren’t supported now.

We could also refer to the discussion below that link, When Outlook communicates to the server it says, "I am Outlook and I am build XX.X.XXXXX.XXXXX," and the server can then check if the user is using an appropriate build. So the old version clients will be detected and blocked.

    Hello

Thank you for your answer. My question is will Microsoft for example check the version of Outlook client and then administratively block access . Or they will not block access but will not take any actions if you have problems with connections to O365 from old clients which are not officially supported for O365 access.

This is very, very big difference and this is my question what Microsoft will do. Because already now Office 2010 is not supported, but works fine in O365. We have also install patches on older systems that communications goes over TLS 1.2. (using help of depreciation report in O365 to check non-compliant clients). SO we are prepared if TLS 1.0 and TLS1.1. will be blocked for access to O365 from old clients as was annnonced (for security reasons), but administratively block older Office/OUtlook clients is completely different story.

Thank you in advance for your answers and comments

I would like to ask a question, is the version of Office2019 16.0.10378.20029 affected?
