Hello,

unfortunately my subscription was cancelled due to an outdated card. I'm trying to resubscribe but I can't change the country of billing. My billing address is US although I'm currently traveling in Ethiopia. Please help me change the billing country. I have updated the billing info with my new billing info. I have urgent work. Thank you.

best,

Tsegahiwot Berhanu

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how stressful it can be to lose access because of an expired card, especially when you need the service urgently for your work.

I know it can be frustrating when you try to resubscribe and find that the billing country cannot be changed. This behavior is expected because Microsoft accounts lock the billing country to the region originally selected when the payment profile was created. To comply with regional policies and tax requirements, Microsoft does not allow changing the billing country directly on an existing subscription or payment profile.

To resolve this, you will need to create a new payment profile for the correct country. This allows you to enter a US billing address and US payment method even if you are currently traveling in Ethiopia. After creating the new profile, you can purchase the subscription again using your updated US billing information. If your old subscription was canceled, you can safely reactivate it using the new payment profile without affecting your account data.

May I ask whether you were able to create a new US payment profile under your Microsoft account’s Payment options page, or would you like help locating the option?

Please feel free to follow up if you need step‑by‑step guidance or if anything is still unclear. I’m here to make sure you can access your subscription again as quickly as possible.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

Unfortunately, you cannot change the country/region for your billing account. The country/region where your organization is headquartered determines the services available, taxes, billing currency, and data center location. If you need to operate under a different country/region, you would need to sign up for a new account in the desired country/region and purchase a new subscription.
