I recently upgraded my phone to a newer version and while doing this I had to resign into all my accounts in the authenticator app however it's telling me I need a code to access my school e-mail and I'm not receiving that code. Is there a way that I can send verification a different way or sign in with just my password

    Hi Alyssa,

When upgrading phones you should always ensure the old phone still has access to the Authenticator app until the new device is fully set up. Otherwise, you can lose access to accounts that require two-factor authentication (2FA).

If you’re not receiving a code for your school email, it usually means:

The authenticator account was not backed up or transferred.

Your school account requires app-based verification only.

Alternative verification methods (SMS, email, recovery codes) are not enabled.

In most school-managed accounts, you cannot sign in with just your password if 2FA is enforced.

The best option here to proceed is to contact your School IT admin, whom should have the option to revoke the authentication from the old phone so you can use it to your new phone

If you're not receiving the verification code in the Microsoft Authenticator app after upgrading your phone, there are a few steps you can take:

    1. Check Alternative Sign-In Methods: If you have set up multiple verification methods, you might be able to sign in using a different method. Look for options like receiving a code via text message or email, if available.
    2. Request a New Code: Sometimes, simply requesting a new code multiple times can help. You can attempt to get a verification code up to five times within five minutes.
    3. Contact Your School's IT Support: If you are unable to sign in using any method, it may be best to contact your school's IT support. They can help reset your multi-factor authentication settings or provide alternative ways to access your account.
    4. Use the Microsoft Authenticator App: If you have access to the original device where the Authenticator was set up, you might be able to retrieve the code from there. The app can also generate verification codes even without a signal.
    5. Re-register for MFA: If you are an end-user, you can ask your administrator to reset your MFA settings, which will prompt you to set up the Authenticator app again using a QR code.

These steps should help you regain access to your account without the verification code from the Authenticator app.
