Hello, I’m Virginia a fellow Windows user.

    What is the exact message?

If an email then most likely it’s extortion scam intended to scare you into paying. If a notification popup or browser popup then clear your browser’s cookies, cache & history.

If the message is from Defender does it say it’s quarantined the infection or not?

    Try running these programs:

    MS Safety scanner: https://learn.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/security/intelligence/safety-scanner-download?view=o365-worldwide

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ ensure scan for rootkits is enabled.

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

    Malwarebytes virus/malware removal forum:

Please do not download any repair tool which may be offered by this site other than the ones I mention/recommend.

Thoroughly research any product which is mentioned here before you decide to download and install it.

If Windows Defender has detected a trojan on your computer, it's important to take immediate action to protect your system. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Do Not Grant Access: Never give remote access to your computer to anyone you do not trust, especially if they claim to be from a support service.
    2. Review the Notification: Click on the notification from Windows Defender to view the details about the detected trojan. You will see options such as Clean computer, Show details, or other actions.
    3. Choose an Action: You can choose to:
      • Remove: This will permanently delete the trojan from your computer.
      • Quarantine: This will isolate the trojan so it cannot run, allowing you to review it later.
      • Allow: Only do this if you are sure the software is safe, as it will stop alerts about it.
    4. Run a Full Scan: After addressing the immediate threat, run a full scan of your system to ensure there are no other threats present.
    5. Update Your Software: Ensure that Windows and Windows Defender are up to date to protect against the latest threats.
    6. Consider Additional Tools: If the trojan persists, consider using the Microsoft Safety Scanner for a more thorough check.
    7. Seek Professional Help: If you're unsure about how to proceed or if the issue persists, consider contacting Microsoft Support for assistance.

By following these steps, you can effectively deal with the trojan detected by Windows Defender without compromising your security.
