In my efforts to stop ads from appearing I inadvertently changed a file explorer setting and can't remember what I changed. My excuse is I'm 69.

When I open the folder icon on my task bar it used to have a list of recently opened files. Now none of those appear and the format of file explorer has changed? thanks for any help. brian

It sounds like you may have disabled the setting that shows recently opened files in File Explorer. To restore this feature, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings by pressing the Windows key + I.
  2. Navigate to Personalization and then select Start.
  3. Look for the option labeled Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer and ensure that it is turned on.

This should help you get the recently opened files back in File Explorer. If the format of File Explorer has changed, it might be related to updates or settings adjustments, but restoring the recent files setting should improve your experience.
