I have access my "one drive account" on more than one computer. I want only one source of input to this one drive account. I need to be able to know what taking up unnecessary space, so that I can delete unnecessary files, duplicates and/or old backups. Also once that is solved, I want to be able to safely save this information on a external source.

I think that if u want OneDrive to have one real source, keep it signed‑in only on the box u actually use amd open that folder, sort by size and clear the big dupes, then copy the cleaned tree to ur external drive. if I’m wrong, sorry.

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

OneDrive will be active on any Windows 10/11 computer you use unless you disable it and it will use whatever account you use when you log into the computer. So, it you log into two different computers using the same account, then both computers will contribute to OneDrive and data will be copied between the two computers through OneDrive. If you want only one computer to sync with OneDrive, then on the other computer, so into OneDrive's settings and disconnect OneDrive from that computer.

To manage your OneDrive account effectively across multiple computers and ensure you are aware of what is taking up unnecessary space, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check OneDrive Storage: You can check how much storage you have used in OneDrive. This will help you identify if you are nearing your storage limit and need to delete files. You can manage your OneDrive storage by deleting files or folders that are no longer needed. For more details, refer to the OneDrive storage management guide.
    2. Free Up Space: To free up space, consider using the Files On-Demand feature, which allows you to see all your files in OneDrive without having to download them. You can also review the contents of your Downloads folder and delete unnecessary files.
    3. Identify Duplicates and Old Backups: Manually review your OneDrive files to identify duplicates or old backups. You may also consider using third-party tools that can help identify duplicate files.
    4. Save Information Externally: Once you have cleaned up your OneDrive, you can save important files to an external source (like an external hard drive or USB drive) for backup. Make sure to copy the files you want to keep before deleting them from OneDrive.

By following these steps, you can maintain a single source of input to your OneDrive account and manage your storage effectively.
