    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I am here to help you.

This issue often happens when using the New Outlook for Windows, which only partially supports Word’s mail‑merge‑to‑email feature. Word relies on MAPI integration to hand off messages to Outlook, but the New Outlook does not fully support this functionality, causing messages to complete the merge in Word but never reach the Outbox or Sent Items.

Additionally, mail merge depends on Outlook being set as the default mail app and the same Microsoft 365 account being signed in across Word, Outlook, and Excel. If Outlook is not recognized as the default, Word cannot transfer the generated emails properly.

Switch back to Classic Outlook, which fully supports MAPI‑based mail merge and will correctly queue and send your merged messages. You can toggle to Classic Outlook using the switch in the top‑right corner of Outlook, or locate “Outlook (Classic)” via the Start menu if the toggle has been removed in newer builds. Also confirm that Outlook Classic is set as your default email application and that you're logged into the same Microsoft 365 account across all Office apps.

Are you currently using the New Outlook interface, or have you recently switched from Classic Outlook?

Feel free to update me with which Outlook version you're using or any error behavior you notice, and I’ll be glad to help you take the next troubleshooting steps.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

If your mail merge document in Word is not going through to Outlook, it could be due to the version of Outlook you are using. The New Outlook for Windows only partially supports the mail merge to email feature. This means that while you may see the merge complete in Word, the emails may not actually be sent to Outlook due to the limitations of the New Outlook's architecture, which does not fully support the MAPI integration that Word relies on.

To resolve this issue, consider switching back to Classic Outlook, which fully supports the mail merge feature. You can toggle back to Classic Outlook using the switch at the top right of the Outlook window. If you do not see this toggle, it may be located under the Help menu. Additionally, ensure that Outlook is set as your default email application and that you are logged into the same Microsoft 365 account across Word, Excel, and Outlook.

If you continue to experience issues after switching back to Classic Outlook, checking for updates or consulting the Microsoft Outlook blog for improvements related to this feature may also be helpful.
