I have the Xbox Ultimate Game Pass and I want to play against my dad who has an Xbox but doesn’t want to pay for an Xbox Game Pass. What are my options?

After hours of AI answers lying and telling me it was impossible for 2 accounts to play at the same time, and trying all there suggestions again, I was transferred to a human and helped.  This is what got my accounts fixed last night.

If You have Xbox Game Pass, Home Xbox is correctly set, Multiplayer works for the owner account but not for the family account on the same Home Xbox, You’ve already tried power cycling, clearing MAC, resetting Home Xbox, and refreshing the subscription.

    90% There.

you’ll need to set up a Microsoft Family group first if you want to share your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription benefits (including multiplayer) with other accounts on your Home Xbox. The Home Xbox feature shares games and subscriptions locally, but multiplayer access for non‑owner accounts is tied to family permissions.

    Please follow this steps.

Create a family group Go to family.microsoft.com and sign in with your organizer account (the subscription owner).

Select Create a family group. Add family members Invite your family members by entering their Microsoft email addresses. They’ll receive an invite to join your group.

Manage permissions Once added, go to Family settings → select the member → adjust privacy and online safety. Set “You can join multiplayer games” to Allow.

Confirm Home Xbox setup On your console, sign in with the owner account → Settings → General → Personalization → My home Xbox → Set this as my home Xbox.

Test multiplayer Sign in with the family account, launch a Game Pass title, and try joining an online session.

    Hope it helps!

Yes, it is possible to use one Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription across two consoles in the same home, with some limits.

Key points from the sharing rules:

    1. Home Xbox sharing on the console with no subscription
      • Set your dad’s Xbox as the Home Xbox for the account that owns Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
      • On a Home Xbox, “the purchaser of digital content on Xbox can share access with anyone else who signs in to the console. While other accounts use the content, the purchasing account doesn't need to be signed in. This applies to games, durable add-ons, and content enabled as part of a subscription (Ex: Xbox Game Pass).”
      • This lets your dad’s own profile use your Game Pass games and benefits on that console without paying for Game Pass.
    2. Playing on the second Xbox at the same time
      • On a console that is not set as the Home Xbox, “when the purchaser is signed in and connected to Xbox services, the purchaser and all other users of that Xbox … have full access to the purchaser's library of digital games and durable content.”
      • That means on your own Xbox (not set as Home), sign in with the Game Pass Ultimate account and play there while your dad plays on the Home Xbox under his own profile.
    3. Concurrency limits
      • Game Pass Ultimate rules state that “Games can only be played on one console at a time” per entitlement, but they also note that when playing on a roaming console, play on the Home console is available if a different user is logged in to the Home console.
      • Practically, this supports the scenario where:
        • Console A (Home Xbox): Dad signs in with his own account and plays.
        • Console B (non-Home): The Game Pass owner signs in and plays.
    4. What your dad does not need
      • Your dad does not need to buy his own Game Pass subscription as long as:
        • Your account with Game Pass Ultimate is set to make his console the Home Xbox, and
        • You remain signed in on your own (non-Home) console when you play.

If issues arise with entitlement or access, Xbox support can assist with account and subscription problems.
