The update 25H2 Windows 11 is causing huge fps drops and games crashing with my AMD radeon gpu

After updating to Windows 11 25H2, I’ve noticed a massive FPS drop of around 80 FPS compared to version 24H2. Games that used to run perfectly now show severe performance degradation, stuttering, and occasional crashes with my AMD Radeon GPU. I’ve already done a clean driver reinstall using DDU, updated to the latest AMD drivers, and disabled unnecessary background features, but the issue persists. For reference, version 23H2 was the most stable and provided the best overall gaming performance on my system. It seems that something in 25H2 has negatively affected GPU performance or compatibility.

    Hello,

Regarding this type of issue, it appears that problems have been occurring on NVIDIA and AMD systems since the January update KB5074109.

Some users have reported that after installing KB5077181, game performance decreased significantly, including major drops in frame rates. There are also multiple reports that uninstalling KB5077181 resolved the issue for them.

Although KB5077181 includes the following improvement:

“[Gaming] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that determines device eligibility for full-screen game experiences,”

some NVIDIA users are still reporting low frame rates and instability on various support forums.

Please open Settings → Windows Update and check your update history.

If KB5077181 is listed, try uninstalling it to see whether the issue improves.

25H2 has put my entire PC in fast-forward, and I am getting visual artefacts. I have an RTX3070. While the farme rate is normal, the timing is all sped up, and all games, and even my OS itself is running in fast forward. I have Windows 11 Home and, as such, I cannot uninstall KB5074109, as I only have 5 updates on the list (2 instances of KB2565063, KB4074828, KB5054156, and KB5077241). Is Microsoft planning on releasing an update to finally fix this major issue?!

This whole experience is frustrating the hell out of me!

Windows 11, version 25H2 introduces changes at the OS level, but the provided context does not document any known or resolved issues specifically related to AMD Radeon GPU performance, FPS drops, or game crashes on 25H2.

    The context does state that:

    • Windows 11 25H2 is delivered as a feature update and continues to receive cumulative quality and security updates.
    • Known issues that have been identified and resolved for 25H2 so far relate to Azure Virtual Desktop/Windows 365 connection problems, apps becoming unresponsive when saving to cloud-backed storage (including Outlook with PST on OneDrive), and Task Manager not closing correctly and leaving background processes that can degrade performance. None of these are documented as GPU-specific gaming issues.

Because only documented issues and resolutions can be used, there is no supported, documented fix in the context for Radeon-specific FPS drops or game crashes on Windows 11 25H2. The only generally applicable guidance in the context is to ensure that the latest cumulative updates for 25H2 are installed, since they include performance and reliability fixes:

    • Install the latest Windows 11 25H2 updates from Windows Update, as each new cumulative update includes previous fixes and improvements.

If performance issues persist after installing the latest cumulative update, the context does not provide further official remediation steps specific to GPU or gaming performance on 25H2.
