Unexpected Machine restart

My machine having Windows10 OS has been restarting daily over night or sometimes if I am away for some.

Earlier, if there was a windows update or something, it used to give a pop up - "Want to restart or snooze and do later" which I don't see these days.

What can I check?

The computer has had approximately 95 BSOD since 09/16/2021.

There were no dump files created.

It can be easy to miss BSOD when the computer is configured to automatically restart.

    Please perform the following steps:

    The BIOS: Version/Date HP S71 Ver. 01.07.02, 10/29/2020

    1) Check and confirm that this is the latest BIOS:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-probook-440-g7-notebook-pc/29090063/model/38462313/swItemId/ob-277403-1?sku=2M7G7PC

    2) Upgrade the BIOS to the most up to date non-beta BIOS

    3) If BSOD are frequent see if the frequency of the restarts are diminished by using safe mode:
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

    4) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    sfc /scannow
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    chkdsk /scan
wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
wmic recoveros set debuginfotype = 7
    wmic recoveros get autoreboot
    wmic recoveros get debuginfotype
wmic computersystem where name=%computername% set automaticmanagedpagefile=true
wmic computersystem where name=%computername% get automaticmanagedpagefile
    bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

When these have completed post an image or share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

    5) Download and install: HP Diagnostics UEFI version 8.3.0.0
    https://www.hp.com/us-en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html

Plan to run the tests overnight

    6) Power on the computer and repetitively click F2 or F10

    7) Run the HP UEFI hardware diagnostics in extensive > loop until error > the next day if there have been two or more loops > click esc > run any component tests as needed > post images of the tests performed with results into this thread

If the malfunctioning hardware is not detected with the HP tests then plan to run third party software to stress test the hardware.

    Hello VaibhavChaudhari,

I would start by opening Event Viewer, by clicking on the start menu and typing Event Viewer, then go through the folders on the left to "System" and "Application" events, to see in the previous hours if there is any relevant Error or Warning ID that can lead to the time of the restart, as well any information related to what led to that restart.

On the other hand, lately my first suspect into reboots, is when there is a power saving plan on the computer, that may make the computer to hibernate but for some reason the system fails to come back from hibernation and needs to be restarted. Could you check if you have currently configured such as power plan in Windows?

You can check some tips on this regard on the next thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-will-not-wake-up-from-idle-modesleep/23288d6e-f0c7-4b8b-b5be-0109687a0c43
