The behavior most likely comes from taskbar auto-hide or clutter settings, not from the apps themselves.
Check these areas depending on Windows version:
- Verify taskbar auto-hide settings
- Windows 11:
- Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Expand Taskbar behaviors.
- If Automatically hide the taskbar is checked, the taskbar (and its apps) will slide out of view and reappear when hovering at the screen edge. Uncheck this option to keep it always visible.
- Windows 10:
- Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Under Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode and …in tablet mode, turn these options Off if the taskbar is hiding unexpectedly.
- Clean up taskbar clutter and system tray If the taskbar is crowded, some icons may move into the overflow (hidden) area and only appear when hovering or clicking the arrow:
- Go to Start > Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
- Under Taskbar items, System tray icons, and Other system tray icons, choose which icons should always be visible so they don’t appear/disappear unpredictably.
- Multiple displays and taskbar behavior If using more than one monitor, apps may appear only on certain taskbars:
- Windows 11: In Taskbar behaviors, adjust Show my taskbar on all displays.
- Windows 10: In Taskbar settings, use the Multiple displays section to control how buttons appear on other taskbars.
If the taskbar itself is stable but only specific app previews or jump lists are being obscured or not visible, ensure Windows is fully updated, as some older issues with taskbar previews and overlapping app bars were fixed by updates.
