    Dear @Ro Strestik,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

I’m sorry that you’re facing this situation. If you are the only administrator in your organization, you need to involve Microsoft data protection team. Please try to find the related hotline number to call the frontline let them raise a ticket for you: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

Please also note that this forum is a user-to-user support space. Forum moderators do not have access to user accounts and are unable to reset passwords, change authentication methods, or intervene in sign-in issues.

In some countries, this is an automated conversation: First, when you call the hotline, they will ask you what kind of problem you are struggling with.

    Answer: Authenticator.

A: What products do you use?

    B: Office 365 for business.

    Verification: Education or company account?

    B: For companies

    A: Are you an administrator?

    B: Yes.

A: Are there any other administrators in your organization?

    B: No.

A: I need one.... Service request?

    B: Yes

If your organization's Office 365 Business subscription is from a partner or reseller, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

If you still cannot reach to agent, there is still a workaround, you might consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans | Microsoft. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the provided prompts. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid any unintended charges.

I understand that this entire process can feel long and complicated, and I truly appreciate your patience while working through it. These steps are in place to protect the security of your account, so I hope you can understand why they are required. I sincerely hope you’ll be able to regain access to your account soon. If you need help at any point, or if you have any questions during the process, please feel free to reach out, I’m always here and happy to assist.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience.

    Warm regards,

Because access to the Microsoft 365 admin center is required to update payment methods, the lockout must be resolved first.

Since there is only one admin on the tenant and access is blocked (for example, due to MFA or sign-in issues), the recovery must go through Microsoft’s Data Protection team via a support request. Forum moderators and normal support channels cannot directly fix a tenant admin lockout.

Use one of these supported paths:

    1. Call Microsoft support and ask for the Data Protection team
      1. Find the appropriate number at Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.
      2. When the IVR/agent asks, clearly state:
        • The issue is an admin account lockout for a Microsoft 365 for business tenant.
        • There is only one global admin and that account is locked out.
        • Request a service request and ask to be routed to the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team (or Azure/Microsoft 365 Data Protection team, depending on routing).
      3. Be prepared to provide business and tenant verification details as requested.
    2. If phone support cannot be reached, create a temporary trial tenant to open a ticket
      1. Sign up for a new Microsoft 365 trial tenant (separate from the locked tenant) using the public trial link referenced in the Q&A answers.
      2. In that new tenant, go to the Microsoft 365 admin centerSupportHelp & support.
      3. Open a support ticket explicitly stating:
        • This is a different tenant from the one that is locked.
        • The locked tenant’s domain and admin username.
        • That this is a sole global admin lockout and a Tenant Admin MFA / account reset is required.
        • Ask to be connected to the Data Protection team to verify ownership and restore access.
      4. After the issue is resolved and access to the original tenant is restored, cancel the trial to avoid charges.

Once the Data Protection team restores access to the admin account and sign-in is working again, the payment method can be updated:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Go to BillingBills & paymentsPayment methods (Dashboard view), or ProductsView payment methods (Simplified view).
    3. To edit an existing card’s name, billing address, or expiration date:
      • Select the three dots (More actions) next to the payment method → Edit.
      • Update the details and enter the card security code when prompted, then Save.
    4. If the card number itself changed, it cannot be edited:
      • Use Replace on the existing payment method to move subscriptions to a new or existing payment method.
      • Or add a new payment method, move subscriptions to it, then delete the old one.

If the billing account is already blocked because of payment issues, contact support as described above; the same Data Protection/support channels can help unblock the billing account after admin access is restored.
