Sync Outlook Classic calendar with Google Calendar

Hi,

Is it possible to sync Outlook 365 (Classic) calendar with Google calendar on Android. We have Gmail account not Outlook or Hotmail. When we sign in, Outlook doesn't give exchange option for example. Is it possible to sync Outlook contacts too with Samsung phone.

I understand it can be frustrating to lose the ability to easily sync your calendar and contacts between Outlook and your phone. 

To answer your question directly: unfortunately, no, this cannot be done natively within the application anymore. Google has permanently disabled Exchange ActiveSync support for all free consumer Gmail accounts, with support officially ending by March 14, 2025, and that's also the reason why you no longer see the Exchange option. 

To achieve two-way synchronization for both your calendar and contacts between Classic Outlook and your Android phone, you will need to bridge the protocol gap using additional software:

For Free Gmail Accounts: Outlook CalDAV Synchronizer

This is a free, open-source add-in built specifically for Classic Outlook. It forces Outlook to use CalDAV (for calendars) and CardDAV (for contacts) to communicate with Google's servers. 

Once the tool pushes your Outlook "(This Computer Only)" data to your Google account, your Android phone's native Calendar and Contacts apps will automatically download the data during their standard background sync. 

For Paid Google Workspace Accounts 

If your Gmail account is on a paid business tier (e.g., a custom domain hosted by Google Workspace), you can use Google's official enterprise tool. 

Download and install Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO) on your PC. 

This plugin injects a specialized profile into Classic Outlook that mimics a full Exchange connection, allowing seamless, native two-way sync for mail, calendars, and contacts across all your devices.

Outlook 365 (Classic) on Windows and Google Calendar on Android cannot be directly two‑way synced with the information in the provided context. However, calendar and contacts from a Microsoft 365/Exchange-type account can sync to Android if the account is added using Exchange/Exchange ActiveSync in the mail app, not IMAP/POP.

For a Gmail account specifically:

• To sync email, calendar, and contacts to Android, add the Gmail account to the Gmail app using Exchange and Microsoft 365, not the "Outlook, Hotmail, and Live" option. This path supports calendar and contacts sync.
• When using the Gmail app setup, follow these steps:
  1. Update the Gmail app from Google Play.
  2. In Gmail: Menu > Settings > Add account > Exchange and Microsoft 365.
  3. Enter the email address and password.
  4. Complete any additional server/security prompts and allow permissions.
  5. If a notification appears saying Unable to sync calendar and contacts, tap it and then tap Allow to enable calendar/contacts sync.

For Outlook app on Android (if used instead of Gmail app):

• Outlook for Android can sync email, contacts, and calendar from Microsoft 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Gmail, and Yahoo.
• To ensure calendar and contacts sync from Outlook to the phone:
  • In the Outlook app Calendar view, open the left menu and verify the account’s Calendar is checked.
  • In Android Settings > Applications > Outlook, make sure Contacts permission is enabled.
  • In Outlook app Settings > select the account > turn on Sync Contacts.

For Samsung’s built‑in Email app (for Exchange-type accounts):

• If an account is added as IMAP, calendar and contacts will not sync.
• Go to Settings > Accounts > Exchange > tap the email address.
  • If it shows as IMAP, remove it and re‑add as Exchange ActiveSync or Exchange.
  • Ensure Sync Calendar is enabled.

On iOS (for comparison):

• When using iOS Mail with an Exchange-type account, the account must be added as Exchange, not IMAP/POP, to sync calendar and contacts.

In summary, calendar and contacts sync on Android requires the account to be configured as Exchange/Exchange ActiveSync (or via the Outlook app with contacts/calendar sync enabled). IMAP/POP connections, including those labeled only as “Outlook, Hotmail, and Live” in Gmail app, will not sync calendar or contacts.
