Hi,

From this official page, the retirement date for GPT-5-08-07 is on 2026-04-15. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/foundry/openai/concepts/model-retirements?tabs=textHowever, from the deployment page in Foundry portal, the model retirement date for gpt-5-08-07. Can you please advise which is the correct and official retirement date. Thanks! User's image

The date of April 15, 2026 shown on the official documentation page refers to the retirement of the GPT‑5 model version 2025‑08‑07 itself. This means that after this date, the specific model version is considered end of lifecycle and should not be used for new or long‑term planning.

·       This date represents the official model version retirement.

·       It applies globally to the GPT‑5 (2025‑08‑07) version, regardless of where it is deployed.

·       It is the recommended date to plan upgrades or migrations.

The later date of February 5, 2027 shown in the Foundry deployment page refers to the retirement of your specific deployment, not the model version itself. This reflects how long the existing deployment is allowed to continue running based on deployment type, region, and upgrade policy. In some cases, deployments may continue to function beyond the model version retirement date.

·       This date is deployment‑specific and not a model lifecycle date.

·       It indicates how long the current deployment may continue to serve requests.

GPT-5 and GPT 5-chat are two different models

Latest retirement reflects normally on deployment tab as shown in screenshots.

As you pointed out from model depreciation section, it is 15th Apr 2026 as Tentative data for GPT-5-chat and Feb 6th, 2027 (around Feb 5th slightly deviated from documentation).

Please note the Model retirement date gets occasionally updated on Deployment page.

The documentation table and the Foundry deployment view are referring to different models:

The documentation entry with retirement date 2026-04-15 is for the gpt-5-chat 2025-08-07 model version.
The deployment screenshot shows gpt-5 2025-08-07 with a retirement date of February 5, 2027.

gpt-5-chat and gpt-5 are distinct entries in the model catalog with their own lifecycle timelines. The official retirement date for each model is the one listed for that exact model name + model version combination in the Azure OpenAI in Foundry model deprecations page. For gpt-5-chat 2025-08-07 that is 2026-04-15; for gpt-5 2025-08-07 the retirement date is 2027-02-05, which matches what is shown in the Foundry portal.

If a discrepancy is ever seen for the same model name and version, the model deprecations page is the authoritative source, and Azure OpenAI will also send Resource Health and email notifications before retirement.
