I just purchased laptop from Dell which included additional payment for Microsoft 365 personal 1year subscription. However, the new computer is showing the non-subscription I purchased over a year ago which emigrated from my old laptop. It is Not showing the subscription. What should I do?

Check with Dell how to claim and activate the prepaid one-year subscription.

    Hi Elie,

Please check at Microsoft Store > Library > Included with Device tab to claim Microsoft 365 for 1 year. Mine is empty because I recently did a full format.

Do the following to make sure the new 1‑year Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is recognized and activated on the new laptop:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active on the correct account
      • Go to the Subscriptions page of the Microsoft account dashboard: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used for the Dell purchase.
      • Verify that Microsoft 365 Personal appears and shows as active. If it does not appear, sign out and try any other Microsoft account that might have been used.
    2. Make sure the subscription has been redeemed (product key / card)
      • If Dell provided a product key (on a card, in email, or in the box), it must be redeemed before the subscription starts.
      • If you bought a physical box or card, follow the instructions or link in the email/packaging to redeem the key. Until this is done, the subscription will not show as active.
    3. Sign out of Office on the new laptop and sign back in with the subscription account
      • Open Word or Excel on the new laptop.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Select Sign out for any existing account shown.
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Reopen Word/Excel and when prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows the active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription on the Subscriptions page.
      • This should switch Office from the old non‑subscription license to the Microsoft 365 subscription.
    4. Run activation if prompted
      • If the Activation wizard appears, follow the prompts and sign in with the account that has the active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
    5. If notifications or issues persist
      • Check that the subscription is not expired and that recurring billing/renewal completed correctly on the Subscriptions page.
      • If the expiration or status looks wrong, contact Microsoft Support from the Subscriptions page or via the support links in the articles below.

If after these steps the device still only shows the old non‑subscription license, contact Microsoft Support and provide details of the Dell purchase so they can verify and attach the subscription to the correct account.
