I have a desktop computer with Microsoft Money Plus that I have been using for quite a while. I got a laptop and added the program and restored the files to that also. Is there a way to save data entered into both computers to the cloud so that I could work from either computer, depending on where I am? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello,

You can absolutely do this using OneDrive which is already built right into Windows. You just need to find your main Microsoft Money data file which usually ends in .mny and move it directly into your OneDrive folder on your desktop computer. Give it a minute or two to sync to the cloud. Once it finishes uploading you can jump over to your laptop, let OneDrive sync the changes there, and then open that exact same file straight from the laptop OneDrive folder. From then on whenever you add things it will sync across both machines automatically.

Just a massive heads up since Microsoft Money Plus is older software and wasn't built for modern cloud syncing. You need to be extremely careful to completely close out of the program on one computer before you ever open it on the other one. If both computers happen to have that file open at the exact same time you run a big risk of file corruption or OneDrive splitting it into conflicting copies and you could lose your newest entries.

Let me know how that works out for you!

Yes. OneDrive can be used to keep the same Microsoft Money Plus data file available on both computers via the cloud.

Key points and a safe way to set it up:

    1. Choose a single Money data file
Decide which computer has the “master” Money Plus file (for example, MyMoney.mny). Use that file going forward.
    2. Move the Money file into OneDrive
On the computer with the master file:
      • Install and sign in to the OneDrive desktop app if it is not already set up. The app creates a OneDrive folder on the PC that syncs to the cloud and across devices.
      • Move or save the Money Plus data file into a folder under the OneDrive folder (for example, OneDrive\Documents\Money\MyMoney.mny).
Files stored in the OneDrive folder are:
      • Backed up to the cloud.
      • Available on any device signed in with the same Microsoft account.
      • Synced automatically when online.
    3. Use the same file from the second computer
      On the second PC (laptop):
      • Install and sign in to the OneDrive desktop app with the same Microsoft account.
      • Wait for OneDrive to sync and download the Money file into the local OneDrive folder.
      • In Microsoft Money Plus, open the data file from the OneDrive folder path (not from an old local copy).
    4. Work only on one computer at a time
Because Money Plus uses a single data file, avoid having it open on both computers simultaneously. A good practice:
      • Close Money Plus on one PC before opening it on the other.
      • Give OneDrive a moment to finish syncing changes (icon shows up-to-date) before switching devices.
    5. Benefits of using OneDrive
      • Files are stored both locally and in the cloud, so work is possible offline; changes sync when back online.
      • Files are accessible from any device signed in with the same Microsoft account and OneDrive.

If OneDrive is not preferred, an external drive or USB key can be used to manually copy the Money file between PCs, but that will not give automatic cloud sync.
