A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
To work with the Microsoft Data Protection team and get MFA reset when locked out as the only Global Administrator, the process is:
- Go to the global Microsoft customer service phone number list and find the number for Korea:
- Use the "Customer service phone numbers" page: https://support.microsoft.com/topic/customer-service-phone-numbers-c0389ade-5640-e588-8b0e-28de8afeb3f2#ID0EDBD=signinorgid
- If Korea is not listed, select a nearby country/region or use the United States number, as documented.
- Call the regional number and navigate the IVR (automated menu) to reach the Data Protection team:
- When asked what the problem is, say: "Authenticator".
- When asked what product is used, say: "Office 365 for business".
- When asked if this is an education or company account, say: "For companies".
- When asked if an administrator, answer: "Yes".
- When asked if there is another administrator, answer: "No".
- When asked if a service request is needed, answer: "Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me to the Data Protection team."
- During the call with the agent:
- Clearly state that this is a tenant lockout scenario, that this account is the only Global Administrator, and that MFA cannot be completed (phone and SMS not working).
- The frontline agent will open a support ticket and route it to the Microsoft Data Protection team.
- Be prepared to provide identity and tenant verification details as requested.
If it is difficult to reach a live agent directly, an alternative documented approach is to create a temporary trial tenant, sign in as admin there, and open a support ticket from that new tenant asking to involve the Data Protection team on behalf of the locked tenant. However, the primary and recommended method is calling the regional support number and requesting Data Protection support.
For business subscriptions, phone support is available 24x7 in English in many regions, and the documentation notes that if a country/region is not listed, a neighboring region or the U.S. number can be used.
