    Hi,

The error message saying 'The account does not exist' usually appears when you enter an incorrect username or email address, the account has been compromised, or you haven’t signed in to your account for more than two years.

    1. When was the last time you successfully logged in to this account?
    2. Did you make sure you entered the correct email address?
    3. Have you noticed any unusual activity on your account recently?

If a long‑time Outlook.com / live.com account suddenly shows “account doesn’t exist” or similar around 2/25, use these steps:

    1. Confirm the account really no longer signs in
      • Try signing in at Outlook.com or any Microsoft sign‑in page.
      • If you see messages like “We couldn’t find an account with that username” or “account doesn’t exist,” follow the recovery guidance below.
    2. Use the Sign‑in Helper and account recovery
      • Go to the Sign-in Helper tool: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2214157
      • Follow the prompts to check the account and available recovery options.
      • If your username or password has stopped working but the system still recognizes the account, use Recover your account at https://account.live.com/password/reset and follow these steps:
        1. Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name.
        2. Choose where to receive the security code and select Next.
        3. Enter the code, then set a new password.
    3. If the username is “not recognized anymore”
      • Review My username and password have stopped working and follow the recovery flow described there. Key points:
        • Make sure the domain is correct (for example, @live.com, not a country variant like @live.co.uk, unless that’s what was originally used).
        • Check for typos in the name part of the address.
        • If you had another alias or phone number on the account, try that instead.
      • If you still see “We couldn’t find an account with that username,” use the Sign-in Helper tool and, if needed, the Microsoft account recovery form linked from the recovery help article.
    4. If the account may have been closed or deleted
      • If the account was closed by you in the past, it could only be reopened within the 30‑ or 60‑day grace period. After that, it cannot be reopened.
      • If there has been no sign‑in for more than two years, the account may have been automatically deleted and cannot be restored or reopened.
    5. If recovery still fails
      • If all self‑service recovery options fail and the system continues to report that the account does not exist, the account is no longer recoverable. In that case, create a new Microsoft account and, if needed, contact product‑specific support (for example, Outlook.com support) using any account you can sign in with.
