If you saved the recording, then that should have been automatically saved in the 'Screen Recordings' folder inside the Videos folder by default.

If the video file is not in there, then paste this into the address bar and press Enter, you may find the video file in that folder.

    %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState\Recordings

Snipping Tool screen recordings are saved only if the automatic save setting is enabled and the recording is successfully completed. Otherwise, they are stored only temporarily and are not recoverable once the session ends.

To verify and control saving behavior for future recordings:

    1. Open Snipping Tool on Windows 11.
    2. Go to its settings.
    3. Ensure the option for "Automatically save original screen recordings" is turned on.
    4. Note the folder path shown there; this is where future recordings will be stored when autosave is enabled.

If that folder does not contain the recordings and the temp folder is empty, there is no supported way to recover past recordings. For future captures, consider using one of the supported recording tools and confirming the save location before closing the app:

    • Snipping Tool (with autosave enabled).
    • Xbox Game Bar (Win + G) for screen recording.
    • Clipchamp on Windows 11, which can record the screen and then lets saving/ exporting the video explicitly.
