I am experiencing an issue with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat at https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat

and also M365 Windows app.

I use Microsoft 365 Family/Premium with Copilot, and I cannot upload images in Copilot Chat. When I try to paste an image or screenshot using Ctrl+V, I get a message saying that this file type is not supported.

When I click Upload files, I also cannot select image files such as JPG or PNG.

All I can add, are various anotherScreenshot 2026-03-20 000748

This issue occurs in the web version at m365.cloud.microsoft/chat and windows app.

Please confirm whether image upload in Microsoft 365 Copilot on m365.cloud.microsoft is currently supported or whether this is a known issue or regression.

Issue description

Expected behavior: I should be able to upload image files such as JPG or PNG into Copilot Chat, or paste them directly using Ctrl+V.

Actual behavior:

Pasting an image or screenshot with Ctrl+V does not work.

I receive a message that the file type is not supported.

  • In the Upload files dialog form windows explorer, image files are not available for selection.

Image upload and paste are supported in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, including for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium subscriptions, but only for the file types and entry points that the service currently allows.

From the documented behavior for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat:

    • Content is added via Add content → Upload images and files or Attach cloud files in Copilot Chat.
    • Copilot Chat can work with uploaded images and with images embedded in supported document types such as Word and PowerPoint files.
    • Supported upload formats for Microsoft 365 Copilot include a broad set of document and image formats; if a specific format is not accepted by the picker, it must be converted to a supported format before upload.

For troubleshooting when an expected file type (such as an image) is not accepted:

    1. Verify that the file type is one of the supported formats for Microsoft 365 Copilot. If not, convert it to a supported format (for example, save or export to a supported document type like .docx, .pptx, or .pdf) and upload that file instead.
    2. Ensure that the file is actually being uploaded (local paths alone are not sufficient; the file must be provided to Copilot Chat via upload or as a cloud file).
    3. If the file is large or complex, try a smaller or simpler file, or split large content into multiple files.

The documentation does not list a service-wide regression or outage for image upload in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, and it does not describe a limitation specific to Microsoft 365 Family/Premium that would categorically block image uploads. If supported image formats still cannot be selected or pasted after following the above steps, the behavior is outside what is described and should be treated as an issue specific to the environment or account configuration.
