Step 1: Verify Your Microsoft Account
Go directly to https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey (Microsoft's official recovery portal)
Sign in with the exact same account used on your laptop
Try both personal and work/school accounts if you have multiple
Step 2: Check for Auto-Enabled Encryption
Even if you never activated BitLocker manually, Windows 11 automatically enables device encryption on most modern laptops (especially those with TPM 2.0). This explains why you're suddenly seeing this prompt after an update.

If Recovery Fails:
I'm afraid this means your data is no longer accessible. Your only option is a clean reinstallation:
Use another PC to create a bootable USB via Microsoft's Media Creation Tool
Boot from the USB and reinstall Windows
Note: This will erase all existing data on the laptop
Prevent This in the Future:
Once reinstalled, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Device encryption and either:
- Disable it if you don't want encryption, or
- Back up your recovery key to a USB drive or print it for safekeeping
