Disable Copilot

Question

I want to disable Copilot in Word on 16.107.1, on Mac OS 26.3.1. Google hasn’t helped. Please give me specific instructions.

To disable Copilot in Word for Microsoft 365 on Mac (version 16.107.1), use the in-app Copilot setting if available; otherwise use privacy settings.

1. Open Word on the Mac.
2. In the top menu bar, select Word > Preferences.
3. Under Authoring and Proofing Tools, select Copilot.
4. Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
5. Close Preferences, then fully close and restart Word.

If the Copilot preference or Enable Copilot checkbox does not appear in Word on the Mac, Copilot can be turned off via privacy settings instead:

1. Open Word.
2. In the top menu bar, select Word > Preferences > Personal Settings > Privacy.
3. In the Privacy dialog, go to Connected Experiences > Manage Connected Experiences.
4. Clear the Turn on experiences that analyze your content checkbox.
5. Select OK, then close and restart Word.

Changing the privacy setting in one Office app on the Mac applies to the other apps the next time they are opened.
