Double charges for a Microsoft 365/Office subscription are usually caused by:
- Multiple successful retries after a previous failed payment.
- Purchasing multiple subscription periods at once.
- The same card being used on more than one Microsoft account (for example, a family member’s account).
To check and resolve this:
- Review Microsoft order history
- Sign in and review recent orders and subscription charges: Review your order history.
- Look for multiple purchases for the same amount that appear close together.
- Check for duplicate charges across accounts
- Go to your Microsoft account Payment options page: Go to payment options.
- Select Investigate to search for other Microsoft accounts using the same card and see if another account is causing the extra charge. Learn more.
- Investigate unrecognized or unexpected charges
- Follow the guidance in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft to identify whether the extra charge is from:
- A Microsoft subscription with recurring billing enabled.
- A purchase by someone else in the household using the same card.
- A previously declined charge that later succeeded.
- An in-app or game purchase.
- If the charge is truly duplicate
- After confirming that there are two separate charges for the same period and product, use the Manage your payments / Payment options page to investigate further and then contact Microsoft Support via the paths provided in the articles if a billing correction or refund is needed.
If the subscription was cancelled recently and charges are still appearing, check the subscription end date at Subscriptions; cancellations must be more than 2 days before the billing date.
