Need assistance to migrate report viewer from asp.net webforms to asp.net core.

Hi Team,

I am a senior software developer from JLL. We have an application that is very old(asp.net web forms, VB.net & report viewer component). This application is critical and used by many clients(internal & external). We are planning to migrate the application to the latest version of dot.net core or dot.net 5 . We observe report viewer component is tightly coupled to webforms. Kidly provide us any alternative to use the report viewer to download, view reports. How can we get rid of asp.net webforms and still use report viewer?

You can get the reports to work IF THEY are hosted on sql server reporting services in .net core. However, I suspect like most of us, you used the "brilliant" ability of client side rdl reports, which of course means you just need a database and the .net project.

I don't know of a alternate road right now. But there are articles floating around that shows how to use .net core and reports. (but, that BIG restriction and got-ya is that you can't do this project + client side like you can/were with asp.net web forms. As noted, I strong bet you were using .net client side reporting, and thus not real need for sql server reporting services was required.

A possible road map would be to migrate those reports to sql server reporting services. But that would then require that you web hosting now has both .net core and also sql server and ALSO has SSRS reporting services for sql server (and that's harder to find hosting wise, and usually more expensive). However, perhaps you have your own server here to host the site? The again, the possible road is sql server reporting services. But, barring the above? I don't know of a solution unless you adopt some new reporting system. there a hodge podge of new reporting systems, and they are drop dead gorgeous, but not part of asp.net core (3rd party purchase + add ons).

perhaps someone else can jump in here - since the above knowledge is a good 1-2 years old, and things may well have changed, since this industry moves quite fast these days.

As far as I think,there is no possible to use report viewer in asp.net core. And there is still no possible in the further.
