Dear @Sindhu Krishnan,

I hope you’re having a good day.

When a Class Notebook is created directly from a Class Team in Microsoft Teams, it becomes an integrated part of that Team’s structure. Even if no student work has been added and the notebook has not been actively used, Microsoft currently does not provide a way to delete the Class Notebook by itself. This is a product limitation rather than an issue with permissions or setup.

Class Notebooks created in Teams are stored in the Team’s associated SharePoint site and are tightly linked to the Class Team. Because of this design, the notebook cannot be removed independently while keeping the Team intact.

At the moment, you have a few practical options, depending on what you are trying to achieve:

  1. If the Class Team itself is no longer needed, deleting the entire Team will also remove the Class Notebook along with all related files, assignments, and the connected SharePoint site. This is the only way to completely remove the notebook when it was created from Teams.
  2. If you would like to keep the Class Team but do not plan to use the Class Notebook, you can simply leave it unused or clear its contents so it does not cause confusion for students. Please note that in a Class Team, the Class Notebook tab is a default system tab created by Microsoft Teams, so there is no option to remove or delete the tab manually. Clearing content does not delete the notebook in the background; it only prevents it from being actively used.
  3. If the class is finished but you want to retain the Team for reference purposes, archiving the Team may be a suitable alternative. Archiving prevents further edits and student activity, while preserving all existing content, including the Class Notebook.

If the ability to delete or reset a Class Notebook without deleting the entire Team would be helpful for your workflow, I encourage you to share this feedback through Microsoft’s Feedback Portal so it can be considered for future improvements.
