microsoft authenticator

Question

microsoft authenticator was giving me 8 numbers instead of 6 and google told me to remove the account and I did. how do I add authenticator?

To add the account back into Microsoft Authenticator, first ensure two-step verification is enabled on that account, then re-enroll it in the app.

For a Microsoft or other non-Google account (Amazon, Facebook, etc.):

1. Sign in to the account in a browser.
2. Turn on two-step verification in that account’s security settings.
3. In the security/2FA section, choose to add an authenticator app or QR code method.
4. When a QR code is shown, open Microsoft Authenticator on the phone.
5. Tap the Add account or + button.
6. Select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.).
7. Scan the QR code shown in the browser.
8. Confirm that a time-based code now appears in Authenticator and use it to finish setup.

For a Google account specifically:

1. On a computer, go to the Google account two-step verification page and select Get Started, then complete the steps to turn on two-step verification.
2. Go to the Google account security page and in Add more second steps to verify it's you, choose Set up from the Authenticator app.
3. On Get codes from Authenticator, select Android or iPhone and then Next to display a QR code.
4. Open Microsoft Authenticator, select Add account from the menu, then Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.).
5. Use the phone’s camera to scan the QR code.
6. Check that the account appears in Authenticator with a verification code.
7. Back on the Google setup page, select Next, enter the code from Authenticator, and select Verify, then Done.

If the camera cannot scan the QR code, use the option to enter the code and URL manually in Authenticator.
